Secret Room(s)

Throughout the time that I was away from college on half term break I started working on my Secret Room project due in the week commencing 11th December. The reason that I didn’t post on my blog over the break was because I was mainly focusing on doing work and not blogging (I know not very professional). However, I am finally going to post what I did during the break. Below is my (WIP) secret room/rooms.

I will continue to add to these rooms, especially the Work Room because it is not quite finished yet but I have got the hang of the lights and stuff. There will be one more component in this Underground Bunker (which these room(s) are in) and that is a shooting range down the hallway that I am working on making. I hope that it will all start to come together once it is finished and textured.

Finished Ball Game

I finalised my Ball Game and let people test it and give their feedback on my game for me to improve it on a later date.  All of the group went around the room and tested each others games. I was given a lot of feedback on my game and I will use this feedback to improve my game and advance it further. Most of the people apart from one (you know who you are) said that they really enjoyed the difficulty curve and the concept of the game. It was also said that they really liked the fact that I had spent the time to texture the game and make it look good. The following negative feedback will be acted on and improved in my game in the following weeks: Add a timer to the levels to make it harder and more like a speed-run, reduce the difficulty curve and fix the barrels that are sticking through the floor.

I am quite happy with my first game and I am hoping to improve on the scripts as I learn more in Ant’s classes.

Vectors and Coding

This was my first lesson of coding with Ant where I learnt a lot about coding.

Vector: A vector is, In the C++ programming language, a vector is an implementation of a dynamically resizable array data structure.

When coding, there are two common errors that occur, these are:

Syntax Error – a syntax error is an error in the syntax of a sequence of characters or tokens that is intended to be written in a particular programming language. For compiled languages, syntax errors are detected at compile-time. A program will not compile until all syntax errors are corrected.

Semantic Error –  These are valid code the compiler understands, but they do not what you, the programmer, intended.

I also learned about cross products. Cross products are the product of two real vectors in three dimensions which is itself a vector at right angles to both the original vectors. Its magnitude is the product of the magnitudes of the original vectors and the sine of the angle between their directions.

Using my new found knowledge of coding I created scripts that allowed a Ship (that was already modelled) to be followed by a missile that had a homing script attached to it, all using vectors and all of the above.

Modular Building Research

Modular buildings and modular homes are sectional prefabricated buildings, or houses, that consist of multiple sections called modules. “Modular” is a method of construction differing from other methods of building. The module sections are constructed at an off site (sometimes, remote) facility, then delivered to the intended site of use. Complete construction of the prefabricated sections are completed on site. The prefabricated sections are sometimes lifted and placed on basement walls using a crane, the module prefabricated sections are set onto the building’s foundation and joined together to make a single building. The modules can be placed side-by-side, end-to-end, or stacked, allowing a wide variety of configurations and styles in the building layout.
